The experiences I’ve had with other tracking/training collars (including earlier versions of the Halo Collar) have not been the greatest. One of my dogs has the Halo 3 and we have had a couple issues with it, but all of them were solved with the tremendous customer service, even for the base subscription level.
So far with my other dog and the Halo 4 we have not had any issues. The size of the Halo 4 is perfect for my 60 pound dog, and he seems to love wearing it. The design of the 4 vs the 3 allows for the 4 to be used on smaller dogs too.

I would not chance my dogs’ comfort and safety with any other collar, even with the price of the Halo being a little high. If the one time payment covered everything for the lifetime of the collar I would not have a problem with the cost. The only reason there’s a little uncomfort with the price is the subscription that is required for the collar to work.
As long as you follow the training and create a routine for you and your dog to charge the collar every night, the battery life isn’t an issue. There was one day where the battery didn’t seem to charge overnight, but it still lasted the majority of the next day, and there hasn’t been an issue since.
The GPS functionality, at least in my area with a good bit of trees, has been pretty reliable, and the accuracy and live updates seem to be about as good as you could hope for.
The only other thing about the collar that can be an inconvenience is the tendency of the collar to slip at the adjustment point of the collar during hard work or play.
